Lisinopril
Lisinopril, an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor medication, is prescribed to treat high blood pressure in adults and children aged 6 and above. It can be used alone or in combination with other drugs. In addition to high blood pressure, lisinopril is also used along with other medications to treat heart failure and to improve survival after a heart attack. By reducing certain chemicals that cause blood vessels to constrict, lisinopril helps blood flow more smoothly and allows the heart to pump more efficiently.
When left untreated, high blood pressure can cause damage to various organs in the body, including the heart, brain, kidneys, blood vessels, and eyes. This can lead to heart disease, heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, vision loss, and other serious health problems. Along with taking medication, making lifestyle changes such as following a low-fat and low-salt diet, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly, avoiding smoking, and drinking alcohol in moderation can help control blood pressure.
